Climb-dominant Dolomite MTB marathon with a summit finish at the ~2,275m top of Kronplatz — the race ends UP, not down. Distance/elevation and date are approximate estimates.
Location
Plan de Corones / Kronplatz, South Tyrol, Italy
Most marathons let you freewheel to the line. This one finishes at the top of Kronplatz, roughly 2,275m up. The finish goes up, not down, decided on a big sustained climb on already shattered legs.
Around 62km and 2,700m of climbing through the South Tyrol Dolomites. A rhythm of long fire-road ascents and exposed, technical high-mountain descents, then one decisive climb.
It's a climber's day, and a selective one. Pace it like a flat marathon, empty the tank before that final ascent, and the summit will find you out.
Who this suits
- Strong sustained climbers. The day is decided on long ascents and a summit crux, so it rewards riders who can hold power uphill for 30 minutes and more.
- Disciplined pacers. There is no freewheel to the line, so it suits riders who ration the effort and arrive at the final climb with something left.
- Confident high-mountain descenders. The earlier descents are exposed alpine singletrack where skill buys both time and safety.
- Riders who climb well for their weight. A climb-dense Dolomite course favours lean-for-climbing legs over flat-road power.
Training plan
A training plan for Kronplatz King isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
A finish that goes up
- Roughly 2,700m of climbing packed into about 62km of Dolomite terrain, near 40m of ascent per kilometre
- A summit finish at roughly 2,275m: the decisive effort lands on tired legs at altitude
- Exposed, technical high-mountain descents between the climbs, high-consequence when wet
- Cool, windy summit and afternoon alpine storm risk to plan and layer for
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Climb-at-the-End: a hard 20 to 40min climb at the end of a 3 to 4hr ride, rehearsing the summit finish on tired legs
- Long Climb Reps: 1x30 to 50min at roughly 88 to 92% FTP on a real sustained climb
- Sweet-spot off-road: 3-4x15 to 20min at 88 to 93% FTP climbing for durability
- Big Dolomite days: 4 to 5hr off-road building toward 2,000 to 3,000m of climbing, ending on a hard ascent
