Bikepacking race — solo
Around 1,100km of self-supported gravel through remote Norway, ridden under a sun that barely sets. Early July at this latitude means near-24-hour daylight, so the challenge is not the dark. It is the absence of it.
You start in Tolga and navigate your own line by GPX across mountain plateaus, forest tracks and long empty gravel roads. No markings, no feed stations, no crew.
The clock runs for days, not hours: front riders take 4 to 5 days, most take 7 to 12. With no darkness to tell you to stop, sleep discipline, not power, decides how you finish.
Who this suits
- Experienced gravel bikepackers comfortable being self-sufficient for days. Sparse settlements and shops that close early or shut on Sundays mean you carry and plan your own resupply.
- Riders who can impose their own routine. With no darkness cue, the athletes who finish well are the ones who schedule sleep and hold to it, eye mask on.
- Steady all-day diesels, not sprinters. Relentless rolling gravel over 4 to 12 days rewards durability and comfort far more than top-end power.
- Anyone drawn to real remoteness. Long empty roads, open plateaus and endless daylight, a long way from the nearest help.
Training plan
A training plan for The Bright Midnight isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
What Norway throws at you
- Cumulative climbing that never relents: rolling gravel and forest track stacking vertical over roughly 1,100km
- Constant daylight that wrecks sleep, so you must sleep by schedule, not by darkness
- Exposure on the open vidde: wind, changeable weather and cold nights near freezing even in July
- Total self-sufficiency: navigate by GPX, plan resupply around sparse, early-closing shops, fix your own bike
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Long gravel Z2 rides building from 3 up to 10 hours, the core session for durability and fuelling
- Back-to-back weekends: a 7 to 10 hour Saturday into a 5 to 7 hour Sunday, riding on tired legs
- A 3 to 4 day self-supported gravel trip on full kit, the key event rehearsal for sleep and resupply
- Daytime-sleep practice with an eye mask plus tempo gravel and lower-body strength for rough ground
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
