ASVÖ King of the Lake

Europe's largest amateur time trial: one 47.2km closed-road lap of Lake Attersee against the clock. Flat-to-rolling threshold-and-aero TT, solo or team (4/10). Not a climbing event.

Date
26 Sept 2026
Location
Schörfling am Attersee → around Lake Attersee → Schörfling, Austria
Category
Road TT — solo
Difficulty
Tough

Europe's largest amateur time trial: one lap of Lake Attersee, 47.2km on fully closed roads, ridden flat out against the clock. Around 1,400 riders roll off one by one from Schörfling in late September.

Only about 280m of climbing, so this is no mountain day. That is the trap. There is no climb to settle into and no descent to coast on, just a sustained threshold effort from 55 minutes to well over an hour and a half.

It is won on aerodynamics and pacing discipline, not raw power alone. Go out too hard in the first 10km and the final shore comes home to roost. Ride it solo, or as a team of 4 or 10.

Who this suits

Is ASVÖ King of the Lake for you?

  • Time-trial engines who love a flat-out effort against the clock, with no bunch to hide in and no sprint to gamble on.
  • Riders with a strong threshold who can hold high, steady power for an hour or more without fading in the final third.
  • Anyone willing to train and race in an aero position. Free speed lives in the tuck here, as much as in the legs.
  • Teams chasing a through-and-off day. Solo, four or ten riders, the smoothest, best-matched unit wins.

Training plan for ASVÖ King of the Lake

A training plan for ASVÖ King of the Lake isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.

01 · Race demands
One sustained hour against the clock
  • 47.2km held at threshold or above, with no climb to settle into and no descent to freewheel and recover.
  • Gentle rollers and lake-shore kickers that tempt you to surge and break your rhythm.
  • Exposed shores where a headwind can cost minutes and wreck a pacing plan.
  • Power sustained in an aero tuck for the full effort, from roughly 55 minutes to over 90.
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
  • 2x20 sweet spot and 3x15 at threshold to build power you can hold for the full lap.
  • Over-unders, blocks at 105% then 90% FTP, so surges over rollers and gusts don't blow you up.
  • Race-position threshold: 2x20 to 30min in a full aero tuck, training power and position together.
  • A full TT simulation, a paced 45 to 47km effort, to rehearse pacing, warm-up and fuelling.
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
  • Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
  • Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
  • Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
  • One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
