Grassroots-gritty North York Moors timed-stage MTB enduro — result is combined timed descent-stage times, liaisons untimed; decided by descent skill and repeatability, not FTP. Distance/elevation/stages and date are approximate estimates.
Location
North York Moors, North Yorkshire, England
A grassroots timed-stage enduro on the raw North York Moors. Your whole result is your combined time on the descent stages. The climbs between them are untimed. This is decided by how you handle a bike, not your engine.
Roughly five or six timed descents down steep heather, rock, ruts and roots, linked by long moorland liaison climbs across a 35km loop with around 1,300m of climbing.
Only ten to twenty-five minutes of that day is actually raced. The rest is the long, exposed, self-sufficient slog that gets you to each stage start with enough left to descend it fast and clean.
Beina Insights
Data
slower than the winner was the median finisher, the field spreads out fast
covers the middle half of the field, where the bulk of finishers land
separates the first finisher from the last
Patterns like these, drawn straight from 2025 race data, are baked into how Beina coaches you for this event.
Who this suits
- Confident descenders who back their handling on raw, natural ground. There are no berms out here to bail you out, so bike skill on steep heather and rock is what moves you up the results.
- Riders who stay sharp when tired. The last stage is scored the same as the first, so this rewards anyone who can descend as cleanly on blown arms and grip as on fresh ones.
- Durable all-day riders. Only minutes are timed, but you need the aerobic base to link the stages across a four to eight hour self-sufficient day on exposed moor.
- Racers who ration effort. The liaisons are untimed, so this suits riders who climb them controlled and save everything for the stages that count.
Training plan
A training plan for 'Ard Moors Enduro isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
What the moor throws at you
- Steep raw descents on heather, rock, ruts and roots, where line choice and brake control decide your time
- Repeatability: going near-max down a stage, recovering on the climb, then doing it again five or six times
- Long liaison climbs that fade your legs before every descent, on exposed open moorland
- A four to eight hour self-sufficient day that demands real fuelling and kit, not just a few short sprints
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Steep raw-natural skills: 60 to 120 minutes on heathery, rocky, rutted descents building grip, line choice and brake control
- Repeated-descent sessions: five to eight near-max descents with liaison-pace climbs between, modelling the multi-stage repeatability
- Skills under fatigue: 30 to 45 minutes of steep descending after a 3 hour ride, rehearsing tired arms on the late stages
- Long liaison-style rides building toward 5 hours off-road with big climbing, plus upper-body and grip strength work
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
