Difficulty
Tough

Ride the actual Tour of Flanders course the day before the pros do. Four distances, from 79km up to a 247km monster that starts in Antwerp like the race itself. Around 16,000 riders, the spiritual home of the Ronde.

It isn't about metres climbed. It's the hellingen: short, savagely steep, often cobbled bergs hit again and again. The Koppenberg ramps to 22%, the Paterberg to 20%, both on greasy setts.

A bucket-list day, but an honest one. The Koppenberg humbles almost everyone first time, less about fitness than position and traction in the crush. It's the repeated punch, not one big climb, that drains you.

Who this suits

Is We Ride Flanders (Ronde van Vlaanderen Cyclo) for you?

  • Punchy riders who love a short, sharp effort. Flanders rewards repeatable out-of-saddle power far more than a big steady aerobic engine.
  • Riders who pick their distance honestly. The 79km is a proper day out, while the 247km from Antwerp demands serious durability.
  • Confident bike handlers. Greasy cobbles and a crush of riders reward traction and clean positioning over raw watts.
  • Cyclists chasing the bucket-list classic, wanting the atmosphere of the Ronde the day before the pros race it.

01 · Race demands
A day of cobbled walls
  • Twenty-plus short steep bergs, many cobbled, punched out of the saddle with little recovery between them.
  • The Koppenberg at up to 22% and the Paterberg at 20% on greasy setts, often in a crush that forces a foot-down.
  • Flat cobbled sectors between the bergs that batter your body and try to eject your bottles.
  • A long day, 5 to 9 hours on the 163km route, in cold and often wet early-April Flanders.
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
  • Short hill reps: 15 to 20 x 45 to 90s on an 8 to 15% climb, the core Flanders demand.
  • Berg sets: 3 sets of 6 x 60s steep punches to build repeatability across the whole day.
  • Steep-ramp standing starts to restart cleanly when you get boxed in on a cobbled wall.
  • Long hilly Z2 rides building to 5 to 6 hours, plus back-to-back weekends for durability.
