Compact Catalan MTB stage race based in Igualada (Barcelona) over the Easter weekend — old-school technical singletrack plus fast flow terrain, punchy non-stop climbing, cumulative GC. Date approximate (Easter).
Location
Igualada, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
Category
MTB stage race — solo / pairs
One of Catalonia's old-school mountain bike stage races, run out of Igualada west of Barcelona over the Easter weekend. Two to three timed stages, decided on cumulative time.
Around 130km and 3,800m of climbing across rocks, roots and tight singletrack, cut through by the fast Territorio Panna flow trails. There is almost no flat: it is non-stop up and down.
This is a handling test as much as a fitness one. The Catalan trails reward riders who can read a rocky line and carry speed, not only those who can climb.

Who this suits
- Confident technical riders. On old-school Catalan rocks and roots, clean handling frees up more time than raw power does.
- Punchy climbers with repeatability. The terrain never settles, so it rewards riders who climb short and often, not grind one long col.
- Riders who back up day on day. GC is cumulative, so consistency across consecutive stages beats one standout day.
- Skilled flow riders. Carrying speed smoothly through the Territorio Panna trails is faster and cheaper than sprinting them.
Training plan
A training plan for VolCAT isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
Non-stop Catalan trails
- Rocks, roots and tight singletrack where handling, not just fitness, decides your time
- Punchy climbs that keep coming, with almost no flat to recover on
- Fast flow sections that reward carrying speed over sprinting
- Consecutive timed stages on cumulative GC, so racing on tired legs is normal
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
