Category
Road ultra — solo / pairs
The original modern ultra-distance road race. Mike Hall drew the first line across Europe in 2013, and every fixed-route bikepacking race since has copied the template he wrote.
Around 4,000km, point to point across a continent, reinvented every edition. Four mandatory controls with high mountain parcours, and between them you navigate your own road. The clock never stops.
The 15 to 16 day cutoff sounds generous. It isn't the point. The scale and the sleep debt are the monster, and route choice wins or loses you hours long before the legs do.
Who this suits
- Riders who love the strategy as much as the pedalling. Route choice, resupply and sleep decisions decide this race as much as fitness does.
- Durable diesel engines, not sprinters. A comfortable tempo held for days beats a big top end you cannot sustain over two weeks.
- Self-sufficient types who fix their own problems. Self-supported means no team car and no feed station, just you and what you carry.
- Anyone drawn to the original. Fifteen days alone across a continent, on the race that started the whole genre.
Training plan
A training plan for Transcontinental Race isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
What the race throws at you
- Around 4,000km self-supported across a continent, ridden over up to two weeks.
- Mandatory high mountain parcours: cold, exposed cols you cannot route around.
- Many nights on open public roads, managing lights, traffic and fatigue.
- Chronic sleep debt, where how and when you sleep decides as much as your legs do.
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Long Z2 road rides building from 4 hours out towards 12-plus, with fuelling dialled in.
- Back-to-back weekends: a big Saturday, then long again Sunday on tired legs.
- A 3 to 4 day self-supported trip plus overnight rides to rehearse sleep and resupply.
- Sweet spot and tempo blocks for sustainable road power, and big climbing days for the parcours.
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
