Trans Balkan Race

1,400km self-supported ultra-endurance bikepacking race through 4 countries (Slovenia → Montenegro). 30,000m climbing through the Dinaric Alps. Solo/pairs. 10-day window. Checkpoints with cut-offs.

Date
29 May 2027
Location
Sežana, Slovenia → Kotor Bay, Montenegro
Category
Bikepacking race — solo / pairs
Difficulty
Savage

A point to point traverse of the Dinaric Alps, 1,400km from Sežana in Slovenia to Kotor Bay in Montenegro. Four countries, self-supported, no feed stations and no support vehicles.

For long stretches you ride genuinely alone. Group riding is capped at 10% of the route, resupply can sit 60 to 100km apart, and in the karst there is no water for 50km at a time.

This is one of the hardest bikepacking races in the world. 30,000m of climbing across a 10 day window, decided by durability and self-sufficiency, not power.

Who this suits

Is Trans Balkan Race for you?

  • Riders who are genuinely self-sufficient. Navigation, mechanicals, resupply and water planning matter as much as fitness on a course this remote.
  • Diesel engines, not sprinters. Success comes from holding a steady moderate effort for days on end, not from a high FTP.
  • Riders at home alone in wild terrain. With group riding capped at 10%, you spend most of the race solo through bear and wolf country.
  • Anyone who values patience over speed. Average moving pace is low, roughly 10 to 15 km/h with stops, so consistency wins.
