Rugged UCI MTB marathon in Friuli, north-east Italy — sustained forest climbs linking rocky, rooty natural descents. Distance/elevation and date are approximate estimates.
Location
Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
A UCI mountain-bike marathon where the descents, not the climbs, decide your day. Around 60km and 2,100m through the rugged Friuli foothills of north-east Italy, on the rough natural trails above the Tagliamento.
Sustained forest and fire-road climbs earn rocky, rooty singletrack going back down. This is not a groomed trail centre. Real, physical mountain biking on sharp Italian rock.
Two things tire here: your legs on the long climbs, your arms and grip on the descents. Fit riders who can't handle rough terrain lose time. A shorter route makes it a fair first target.
Who this suits
- Riders who can descend rough natural terrain, not just flow trails. Time here is won and lost on the rocky, rooty singletrack, so real handling counts as much as fitness.
- Climbers with composure. The course stacks sustained forest climbs, so it rewards riders who go up all day and still stay sharp descending on tired arms.
- MTB racers who train skill, not just the engine. Pure fitness without technical descending gets shelled on Friuli's rock, especially when it turns wet.
- Anyone testing themselves early season. A late-April fixture with a shorter route, so it works as a first proper mountain marathon.
Training plan
A training plan for Tiliment Marathon Bike isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
What the course throws at you
- Sustained forest and fire-road climbs, repeated: around 2,100m over roughly 60km
- Rocky, rooty natural descents that punish tired arms and poor line choice
- Cumulative fatigue in two systems: legs on the climbs, grip and core on the descents
- Changeable spring Friuli weather, from warm and dry to cool, wet and slick
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Sustained climb reps: 3 to 4 x 12-20min on a real climb, for repeatable forest-climb power
- Weekly natural rock and root descending, protected as a priority not an afterthought
- Skills under fatigue: descending after a 2hr climbing ride, rehearsing the tired-arm race state
- A long 3 to 4hr climb-and-descend ride building toward 1,600m+ of climbing
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
