A flat, fast-but-sandy 56km loop through Thetford Forest, England's largest lowland pine forest, on the sandy Breckland of Norfolk. One of Glorious Gravel's welcoming Trophy days, run mid-October.

Fully signed, feed stations on course, no cut-offs, e-bikes welcome. There are almost no hills here. The real challenge is the soft sand.

It makes a genuine first gravel event. Short enough to enjoy, sheltered by the forest, and forgiving enough that a couple of good rides gets you ready.

Who this suits

Is Thetford Forest Autumn Trophy for you?

  • Riders wanting a first gravel event. Flat, short, sheltered and with no cut-offs, it feels achievable rather than intimidating.
  • Steady tempo riders. With no climbs to hide behind, the day rewards holding an honest, sustainable effort start to finish.
  • Anyone happy to keep momentum through soft ground. The sandy sections reward a relaxed grip and good line choice, not raw power.

Training plan for Thetford Forest Autumn Trophy

A training plan for Thetford Forest Autumn Trophy isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.

01 · Race demands
What the forest throws at you
  • Soft Breckland sand that drags and saps speed if you fight it or brake into it
  • Sustained flat-gravel tempo with no climbs to break up the effort
  • A rolling-resistance tax that makes sandy gravel far slower than tarmac for the same effort
  • Cool, sometimes damp mid-October forest conditions to layer for
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
  • Gravel tempo: 2-3 x 15-25min at 85-92% FTP on gravel for sustainable event pace
  • A steady long ride building to 2.5-3hr on gravel, mostly Z2
  • An event-pace ride of 1.5-2hr at your target Trophy intensity to rehearse pacing
  • Deliberate soft-sand handling: ride sandy tracks holding momentum to build Breckland confidence
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
  • Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
  • Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
  • Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
  • One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
