The world's biggest MTB gathering (20,000+ riders, ~40 races) at Fréjus. Flagship Roc Marathon is ~102km/~2,700m of technical rocky Maures/Estérel singletrack. A technical MTB marathon festival.
Location
Fréjus (Base Nature) → Massif des Maures / Estérel, France
The world's biggest mountain-bike gathering. 20,000+ riders and around 40 races descend on Fréjus each October, and at its heart sits the flagship Roc Marathon: 102km through the Massif des Maures and the Estérel.
Dusty, rocky Mediterranean singletrack above the sea. 2,700m of climbing, sustained off-road climbs, then technical descents on the Maures rocks where handling is free speed.
It earns its name. Off-road fatigue stacks faster than road distance suggests, the October heat is real, and the huge start pens punish a timid position. An iconic day, but a demanding one.

Who this suits
- Riders with genuine MTB handling. The rocky Maures and Estérel descents give free time to those who can ride them and rattle those who can't.
- Durable climbers happy off-road. 2,700m of climb-then-descend over hours rewards sustained sweet-spot legs, not road power.
- Anyone drawn to the spectacle. Around 40 races and 150,000 visitors make it a bucket-list festival as much as a bike race.
- Cool-climate riders willing to prep for heat. October on the Côte d'Azur can hit 25°C+, and acclimatised riders cope far better.

01 · Race demands
What Roc d'Azur throws at you
- Sustained off-road climbing: about 2,700m over 102km, climb then descend, repeated for hours
- Technical rocky singletrack through the Maures and Estérel, where descending skill is free speed
- Mediterranean heat: early October can sit at 25°C+ over a multi-hour race
- Congested mass starts from huge festival fields, then off-road fatigue that stacks faster than road distance
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Long technical MTB rides, building from 2.5hr toward a 4-6hr peak on real off-road terrain
- Off-road climb intervals: 4-5 x 8-12min at sweet-spot or threshold on the actual climbs
- Descending drills: repeated laps of rocky technical descents to bank free time
- Heat and Z2 sessions in the final weeks, plus a full race-pace simulation
