Location
Nürburgring, Nürburg, Eifel, Germany
Category
24hr road — solo / pairs
Difficulty
Brutal

Twenty-four hours on the Nürburgring, the circuit they call the Green Hell. You lap the modern F1 Grand Prix track joined to the legendary Nordschleife, as many times as you can before the clock runs out.

Each ~26km lap stacks ~560m of climbing, headlined by the sustained drag to Hohe Acht at up to 17%. Ride it 20-plus times and you have climbed over 11,000m.

Held in late July, but the Eifel sits near 600m and turns cold and wet fast. The summer night is only 6-7 hours of dark. The real test is fast paved descents in the cold, not surviving the blackness.

Who this suits

Is Rad am Ring 24h for you?

  • Climbers with strong power-to-weight. ~560m every lap makes this a W/kg race, rewarding riders who climb steadily for hours rather than punch and fade.
  • Confident descenders. The Nordschleife rewards low-braking lines, and every bit of energy saved on the descent is energy kept for the next climb.
  • Riders who pace with discipline. Hohe Acht is the governor, and the day is won by those who meter the climb from lap one instead of chasing team relays early.
  • Anyone drawn to race the Green Hell. The pull of the Nürburgring is half the reason to be on the start line.

01 · Race demands
What the Ring throws at you
  • Repeated sustained climbing: Hohe Acht every ~26km lap, over 11,000m of ascent across the full 24 hours.
  • Fast, technical paved descents off the Nordschleife, often cold and wet at altitude.
  • A short but chilly Eifel night of 6-7 hours, ridden with lights on cold descents.
  • Disciplined pacing and fuelling for 24 hours, metering the climb from the very first lap.
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
  • Sustained climb intervals: 3-5 x 10-20min at threshold, ridden fresh early in the week.
  • Long hilly Saturdays building to 5-6 hours with 2,000m+ of climbing.
  • Fatigued climbing: repeated-climb efforts tacked onto the end of a 4-5hr ride.
  • One night ride to dial in lights and cold, low-light descending confidence.
