NorthCape4000

~4,000km self-supported ultra-distance road race from Italy to the North Cape (Nordkapp), the top of Europe. Route redrawn each edition; ~2027 date and climbing figure are approximate.

Date
24 Jul 2027
Location
Rovereto, Italy → North Cape / Nordkapp, Norway
Category
Road ultra — solo / pairs
Difficulty
Savage

One race, one continent. Roughly 4,000km self-supported from Rovereto in Italy to Nordkapp, the northernmost point of mainland Europe. The clock never stops from the Dolomites to the Arctic.

The route is redrawn each edition, but the shape holds: a big Alpine opening, a long grind across Central Europe and Scandinavia, then a cold, wind-battered run up the Arctic roads to the North Cape plateau.

It earns its bucket-list status. Around 40,000m of climbing is savage, but a generous three-week time limit means this is completable, not just raceable. Finish, and you have ridden to the top of Europe.

Who this suits

Is NorthCape4000 for you?

  • Riders drawn to the journey as much as the result. This is the Dolomites, the Baltic and the Arctic in one ride, celebrated for where it goes, not just how fast.
  • Self-sufficient planners. You route yourself between checkpoints, so map-craft, resupply and sleep decisions matter as much as the legs.
  • Steady diesel engines over fireworks. Three weeks in the saddle rewards a durable, comfortable pace, not a big sprint.
  • Athletes who manage themselves. Hot Italian days, a cold windy Arctic, and sleeping under the midnight sun all fall to you.

Training plan for NorthCape4000

A training plan for NorthCape4000 isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.

01 · Race demands
Three weeks, many climates
  • A big Alpine opening while the field is fresh, with mass-start adrenaline tempting you to overcook it
  • Weeks of accumulated fatigue and sleep debt across ~4,000km, not the single hard day of a sportive
  • Multiple climates in one race: 30C+ in the south, cold and windy on the Arctic finale
  • The midnight sun in the far north, where there are no darkness cues to tell you when to sleep
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
  • Long Z2 endurance rides building from 5 to 12 hours, plus back-to-back weekend doubles to train tired legs
  • Sweet spot and tempo blocks for the sustained road power this event demands more than off-road ultras
  • Big climbing days of 3,000m and up to ready you for the Alpine opening
  • Overnight road rides and a 3 to 4 day self-supported trip to rehearse night riding, sleep and resupply
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
  • Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
  • Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
  • Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
  • One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
