Shorter, welcoming Glorious Gravel Trophy ride in Langdale Forest on the eastern North York Moors — firm forest gravel with rolling, punchy climbs. 48km, fully signed, feed station, no cut-offs. Date approximate (mid-July series pattern).
Location
Langdale Forest, North Yorkshire
Glorious Gravel's shorter Trophy format: 48km of firm Langdale Forest gravel on the eastern edge of the North York Moors. Fully signed, timed with a rolling start, no cut-offs. Around 11 July in 2027.
Forest fire roads flow fast and rollable, then punchy forestry climbs stack up on the moor edge. Around 750m of climbing gives it more bite than a flat forest loop, but no single monster ascent.
It's an accessible day, not an epic. No cut-offs, long July daylight and a friendly, mixed-ability field with e-bikes welcome mean a first gravel event feels achievable. Beer and a medal at the finish.
Who this suits
- First-timers stepping into gravel. 48km with no cut-offs and long July daylight makes a first event feel achievable rather than intimidating.
- Steady climbers who ration the effort. The route stacks short, punchy forest climbs, so it rewards holding a rhythm over attacking every rise.
- Riders happy to fix their own flat. You're self-sufficient between feeds on firm forest gravel, though the route is signed and help is never far.
- Anyone after a rolling forest day without the technical stuff. Firm fire roads and bridleway, not singletrack, so gravel legs matter more than MTB skills.

01 · Race demands
What Langdale throws at you
- Short, punchy forest climbs stacked through the ride, not one big ascent
- A couple of hours of rolling gravel: aerobic fitness over firm fire roads
- The temptation to attack every rise and fade in the second half
- Exposed moor-edge sections that can turn cool and windy even in July
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Punchy climb repeats: 4 to 6 x 3-6min tempo or threshold on gravel climbs
- Sweet spot blocks: 2-3 x 15-20min at 88-93% FTP for sustainable climbing power
- A long Z2 gravel ride building comfortably past 48km
- Fuelling rehearsal at 60-80g carbs an hour on the longer rides
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
