Bikepacking race — solo / pairs
A ~600km self-supported bikepacking race with no support, no course markings and no prizes. You navigate every junction yourself from a GPX file, coast to coast and back, Arnside out to Scarborough and home.
The route stacks 9,800m of climbing across the Yorkshire Dales, the Vale of York and the Wolds to the sea, then hauls you back over the bleak North York Moors. Around 40% is technical singletrack and doubletrack.
Plan for days, not hours. The fastest finish in 33 to 40 hours on almost no sleep; most take two or three nights. Either way, at least one full night alone on the moors is the deal.

Who this suits
- Self-sufficient riders. You fix your own mechanicals at 3am, find your own line at every junction and carry what you need. No support, no signage, no bail-out.
- Diesel engines, not sprinters. What gets you home is keeping a loaded bike moving smoothly over rough ground for days, not raw power on a climb.
- Riders happy in the dark and the wet. April in the north means mud, bog and at least one full night out. If that reads as adventure, this is yours.
- Confident off-road handlers. Rocky Dales bridleways and boggy moorland reward smooth technique and a willingness to hike-a-bike the steep stuff.
Training plan
A training plan for Dales Divide isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
What 600km off-road asks
- ~600km and 9,800m of climbing over gravel, rocky singletrack and boggy bridleways, self-navigated from a GPX with no markings.
- At least one full night riding, likely more, with sleep measured in minutes, not hours.
- Everything carried: full bikepacking kit, tools, food and lights, on terrain where hike-a-bike is normal.
- Fuelling and resupply entirely on you, from shops and cafes, across 30 to 90-plus hours of moving.
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Long Z2 endurance rides off-road, building progressively toward 8 hours and beyond.
- Back-to-back weekends: a big Saturday of 6 to 8 hours, then 4 to 6 more on Sunday's tired legs.
- An overnight bikepacking trip with a bivvy in the specialise block: ride, sleep rough, ride again.
- Night navigation rides on unfamiliar trails, GPS only, until darkness and route-finding feel routine.
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
