Forget climbing and rock gardens. \n\nWith just ~860m of climbing over a net-descending course, this is a fitness and pacing race, not a bike-handling one. \n\nAt ~13,000 riders, it's the Nordics' biggest MTB race. Flat and fast sounds easy.

It isn't: three to six hours holding speed in a working group is a long, hard day.

Who this suits

Is Cykelvasan for you?

  • Roadies and gravel riders. Cykelvasan is the most road-race-like event of the MTB marathons, so a strong sustained-tempo engine transfers almost directly.
  • Riders who can sit in and work a group. Drafting on this fast doubletrack saves 20 to 40 minutes, so bunch skills matter more than bike handling.
  • Steady tempo riders who fuel well. High average speed burns real energy across three to six hours, and the strongest riders are the ones who keep eating.
  • Anyone who dislikes technical terrain. No singletrack, no rock, just firm fast gravel through bright pine forest.
Training plan

Training plan for Cykelvasan

A training plan for Cykelvasan isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.

01 · Race demands
What the day throws at you
  • An early ~2km, ~170m climb straight off a congested wave start, then position sorts itself out
  • Three to six hours of sustained sub-threshold tempo on fast, flat-to-rolling gravel
  • Constant group riding and drafting, where sitting solo bleeds serious time
  • High carb demand: fast average speed means fuelling at 60 to 90g of carbs an hour
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
  • 2x20min at threshold and long sweet-spot blocks of 3x20-25min to build tempo durability
  • Chain-gang bunch rides of two to three hours, practising through-and-off and surges
  • Over-unders (5x 2min hard, 3min steady) for the first hill and rolling accelerations
  • Race-pace long rides of four to five hours on gravel, rehearsing pace and fuelling at speed
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
  • Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
  • Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
  • Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
  • One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
