Germany's biggest one-day cycling event, and one of the few where the terrain barely matters. A flat, fast, big-bunch race on largely closed Hamburg roads, finishing with a boulevard sprint in the heart of the city.

Out from HafenCity across the bridges, then onto exposed regional roads toward Buxtehude and back for the finish. On the longest routes a short, punchy climb, the Waseberg, is the only real rise all day.

This is won in the draft, not off the front. A rider who holds a fast bunch beats a stronger solo rider by minutes, so speed here is about position and wheels as much as watts.

Who this suits

Is ADAC Cyclassics Hamburg for you?

  • Riders with a strong flat engine. Success here is absolute watts and the ability to hold a fast wheel for hours, not power-to-weight or climbing legs.
  • Confident bunch riders who can position in a huge field, corner in a crowd and read crosswinds before the echelons form.
  • Punchy riders who can repeat short surges off the bridges and over the Waseberg, then contest a nervous sprint finish.
  • First-timers stepping up who want a fast, flat day, and understand that hiding in the bunch, not powering off the front, is how you go quick here.

  • Hours of sustained aerobic pace in a fast bunch, sharing turns and sitting in the draft
  • Exposed regional roads where crosswinds can shatter the field into echelons
  • Repeated surges out of corners and over the short Waseberg, then a fast, nervous sprint finish
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
  • 2x20min at threshold and over-unders for the raw sustainable power to hold the bunch
  • VO2 repeats (6-8 x 3min) and micro-surges (30s hard / 30s easy) to cover selections
  • Punchy hill reps, 8-12 x 45-60s hard on a short rise, to rehearse the Waseberg
  • A weekly fast group ride or chaingang: the highest-value, most race-specific session you can do
