Accessible rolling self-supported gravel bikepacking through the Cotswolds limestone country, ~100/200/300km. Ideal first ultra. Mid-September date and distances/elevation approximate.
Location
Cotswolds, England (loop)
Category
Bikepacking race — solo / pairs
A self-supported gravel bikepacking route you can ride as a 100, a 200 or a 300km. Rolling limestone byways through the Cotswolds, no support, no prizes, just you, a GPX file and a dot on a tracker.
The 100 is a single friendly day, around 1,200m of climbing. The 300 stacks over 4,000m and a night out. The steepest efforts come on the Cotswold escarpment, the western edge.
It is the rare ultra that meets you where you are. Frequent villages, pubs and cafes to resupply, mild September nights, forgiving terrain. A first bikepacking event, not a remote sufferfest.

Who this suits
- First-timers to bikepacking. Pick the 100km, ride it as a single day, and learn the craft on terrain that forgives your mistakes.
- Riders who want to practise packing, resupply and a first night out somewhere low-risk, with a village or pub never far away.
- Steady diesel engines, not sprinters. This rewards hours of comfortable riding, not a high FTP or a big kick.
- Ambitious riders after a genuine 300km ultra, over 4,000m of climbing and a night out, without the remoteness of a mountain route.
Training plan
A training plan for Cotswolds 100/200/300 isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
What the Cotswolds asks of you
- Hours in the saddle: 5 to 8 for a fast 100km, well past a day and a night on a 300km completion
- Rolling relentlessness. No mountains, but the constant small climbs quietly add up over the longer routes
- Full self-sufficiency: navigate by GPX, resupply from village shops and pubs, and mind their opening hours
- On the 200 and 300, a night out. Mild, but route-finding is harder once it's dark
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Long Z2 gravel rides, the core session, built progressively from 3 up to 8 hours
- Loaded rides with your full bikepacking kit, to shake down and dial in the setup
- Back-to-back weekend doubles, plus an overnight bivvy to rehearse the 200 or 300
- Night gravel rides on the longer routes, learning your lights and GPS in the dark
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
