Category
MTB stage race — solo / pairs
Four days of technical Mediterranean mountain biking around Calpe, on the Costa Blanca, all ranked on cumulative time. An early-season stage race, short each day but climbing-dense and relentless.
This is proper off-road racing: rocky Mediterranean singletrack, loose surfaces, and terrain where handling and robust tyres matter as much as your legs.
It lands in late January, so you ride it off a winter base. It is won across all four days, which rewards the rider who can back up hard efforts, not just fire off one big one.
Who this suits
- Confident off-road descenders. The rocky Mediterranean singletrack gives away free time to riders who can read a line and stay off the brakes.
- Punchy climbers, not steady col grinders. The climbs are short and steep, so repeated hard surges beat a single sustained tempo.
- Riders who recover well overnight. Four back-to-back days means the winner is whoever backs up, not whoever peaks on day one.
- Early-season racers opening their year. A January stage race off a winter base is a sharp start to a spring and summer MTB campaign.
