Flagship 250-mile continuous multi-day trail ultra across Arizona from desert to mountains, ~40,000ft of climbing, sleep-deprivation + heat + altitude over 3-5 days, ~125h limit. Date approximate (early May).
Location
Black Canyon City → Flagstaff, Arizona
Category
Multi-stage ultra
The clock never stops. 250 miles from the Sonoran desert up to Flagstaff, Arizona, run continuously over three to five days on your feet. No nightly restart, no staging.
The route climbs from low Sonoran desert through sky-island mountains, past Sedona's red rock, up into high pine forest. You cross from around 2,000ft to over 7,000ft.
The real opponent is sleep. Across multiple nights you build sleep debt, hit deep lows, even hallucinate, napping in short bursts at sleep stations. Finish inside the roughly 125 hour limit and you have done what few runners ever will.

Who this suits
- Experienced ultrarunners with a 100-mile finish behind them. Cocodona is a step up in kind, not just distance: the job is repeating a big day for days on end.
- Runners who manage lows well. The crux is staying functional through nights of sleep debt and mood swings, not raw speed.
- Athletes who pace by feel across days, not by a fast first day. A repeatable daily effort is what gets you to Flagstaff.
- Those happy to run as a team. Crew and pacers handle your food, feet, and sleep, so leaning on support is part of the event.
Training plan
A training plan for Cocodona 250 isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
What the course throws at you
- Around 40,000ft of climbing and just as much descent over rocky, technical trail
- Heat to manage early in the low desert, then cold and altitude in the high country
- Days and nights of accumulating fatigue, not a single hard effort
- Sustained fuelling of 200 to 300+ kcal per hour, through nausea and flavour fatigue
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Back-to-back-to-back long runs, three big days like 6h, 5h then 4h, the core multi-day stimulus
- An overnight run into the next day with a planned nap, rehearsing sleep deprivation
- Desert heat prep, sauna sessions and overdressed midday runs, kept late in the build
- Downhill repeats and pole-hike climbs to condition your legs for the relentless vert
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
