The ~100km / ~6,100m little sister of UTMB — Courmayeur to Chamonix over Grand Col Ferret, a huge competitive UTMB-week field, one night out. Next-date approximate (UTMB week, late August).
Location
Courmayeur, Italy → Chamonix, France
The back half of the UTMB loop, run under its own banner. 100km and 6,100m of climbing from Courmayeur in Italy to the same iconic Chamonix arch, in the thick of UTMB week in late August.
It runs shorter than UTMB, but a deep, fast field turns it into a genuine race. Most runners power-hike the cols, run the high balconies, and pass through one full night out on the mountain.
A 26h30 limit sounds generous, but a savage opening climb and hard intermediate cutoffs mean the back of the field spends the day racing the barriers, not cruising.
Who this suits
- Runners with shorter mountain ultras already in the legs. This is a qualification and lottery event, not a first-ever trail race.
- Durable descenders. 6,100m of steep, technical downhill late in the race rewards runners who have trained their quads to keep braking when they are wrecked.
- Disciplined starters. The huge climb straight out of Courmayeur and a fast, deep field drag people out too hard, so it suits runners who ration the opener.
- Runners who want to race, not just finish. CCC is short enough to be run hard, rewarding genuine speed on the balconies and descents, not only survival.
Training plan
A training plan for CCC (Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix) isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
What CCC throws at you
- 6,100m of climbing and the same again in descent over 100km of alpine trail
- A savage opening climb from Courmayeur, then a fast, deep, competitive field
- One full night on the mountain, headtorch on, cold and windy on the high cols
- Long technical descents late in the race that shred quads and end days
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Long mountain runs building to a 6 to 8 hour day, plus back-to-back weekends (Saturday 6h, Sunday 4h)
- Downhill repeats and long descent runs to armour your quads for late-race braking
- Hilly tempo and trail threshold to keep genuine running speed for the runnable sections
- Power-hike pole repeats, night runs, and full-kit, full-fuelling rehearsals
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
