Climb-dense MTB marathon on the island of Elba — short steep rock/dirt climbs linking stunning coastal technical singletrack. Distance/elevation and date are approximate estimates.
Location
Capoliveri, Isle of Elba, Italy
A climb-dense MTB marathon on the island of Elba. Around 60km and 2,200m of climbing, starting and finishing in Capoliveri on the south-east coast, early May.
The rhythm is relentless: short steep rock and dirt climbs away from the sea, then technical coastal singletrack dropping back down with the Tyrrhenian below.
It's short on paper and decided on the descents. The rocky, loose trails win or lose big chunks of time, and the warm May sun makes tired-arm handling the real risk.
Who this suits
- Riders who can descend rock, not just climb. Time here is won and lost on loose coastal singletrack, so handling matters as much as fitness.
- Punchy climbers who can go again. The climbs are short and steep and keep coming back, rewarding repeatable efforts over one big push.
- Anyone comfortable in the heat. It's a warm Mediterranean island by late morning, so riders who fuel and drink well hold it together late.
- Riders after a technical island day. Take the Classic route for a first go, the marathon for the full climb-and-descend rhythm.
Training plan
A training plan for Capoliveri Legend Cup isn't a generic base build. Beina reads the event's exact demands, looks at your specific profile and the time you actually have, and maps a highly adapted plan to the start line.
01 · Race demands
What Elba throws at you
- Repeated short steep climbs on rock and dirt, not long steady drags
- Technical coastal singletrack descents where handling decides your time
- Cumulative fatigue in the legs on the climbs and the arms and grip on the descents
- Warm May heat with little shade on the exposed climbs
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
- Punchy climb reps: 6-8x 3-5min on a steep climb
- A weekly rocky-trail skills session on loose natural descents
- Skills under fatigue: 30-45min descending after a 2hr climbing ride
- A long climb-and-descend ride building to 3-4hr and 1,800m+ of climbing
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
- Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
- Adapts every week as Beina learns how you respond
- Syncs your sessions straight to Garmin and Wahoo
- One clear next session, never a wall of spreadsheet
