Difficulty
Tough

Nearly 10,000 ft of climbing packed into 84 miles. That is the whole story of the most mountain-bike-leaning Belgian Waffle Ride, run on chunky high-country gravel and singletrack around Cedar City, Utah.

The surface is loose rock, rocky doubletrack and genuine singletrack, and much of it sits at altitude. Thin air caps your power, the big climbs stack up, and loose descents punish tired hands.

It is the hardest-climbing round of the BWR Quad-Tripel Crown. Five to eight hours of steep dirt at elevation. The shorter Wafer and Wanna distances exist for a reason.

Who this suits

Is Belgian Waffle Ride Utah for you?

  • Strong climbers with good power-to-weight. This course is decided by climbing W/kg, not flat power, and the vert never really lets up.
  • Riders who came from mountain biking. Loose rock and genuine singletrack reward MTB handling on a gravel bike.
  • Anyone who can pace a long climb. Overcook the opening ascent with the altitude and vert still to come and your day ends early.
  • Riders comfortable at altitude, or willing to arrive in Cedar City early to acclimatise. High-country air caps your power.
