Category
MTB stage race — solo
Difficulty
Tough

The world's premier singletrack mountain bike stage race. Seven back-to-back days solo on British Columbia's legendary West Coast loam, through the rainforest trail towns of the Sea-to-Sky.

Other stage races link big climbs with fireroad. This one strings together the best descending trails on earth, joined by short, punchy climbs, day after day.

The engine matters, but handling decides it. Hold your skill and focus through steep, rooty descents on day six and you'll finish ahead of stronger riders who can't.

Who this suits

Is BC Bike Race for you?

  • Confident descenders. On trails this technical, smooth handling buys more time than watts, and it keeps you upright across all seven days.
  • Riders who can back up day on day. Single-day fitness fades fast here; the durability to ride tired all week is what this rewards.
  • Anyone chasing bucket-list West Coast singletrack. This is the loam and rainforest trail towns you've watched videos of, raced solo.
  • Skilled amateurs on the right bike. A capable trail bike and real descending nerve beat a pure XC engine on this terrain.

01 · Race demands
Seven days of technical descending
  • Steep, rooty loam descents, relentless and skill-limited, for seven straight days.
  • Punchy short climbs linking the descents, repeated efforts that stack over the week.
  • Arm pump and grip fatigue from the sheer volume of technical descending.
  • Wet-coast conditions that turn roots and loam greasy without warning.
02 · Key sessions
What your weeks look like
  • Descending practice, then fatigued descending: technical trails at the end of a long ride.
  • Weekend doubles: 2.5 to 3.5hr Saturday, then a second technical ride Sunday on tired legs.
  • Punchy climb repeats: 8 to 12 by 2 to 4 min hard on steep climbs.
  • Grip and upper-body gym work to hold control when your forearms are screaming.
03 · Shaped around you
Not a generic schedule
  • Built from your current fitness and the time you actually have
